Digbijayee Khatua born in 1989 in Kendrapada (Odisha) is a New Delhi–based visual artist whose work explores the emotional and environmental realities of contemporary urban life. Working primarily with watercolour, acrylic, and three-dimensional paper cut-outs inspired by miniature techniques, he constructs intricate compositions where facades, interiors, and figures coexist.
The artist describes his Every Window Has a Story series as a reflection “on the unseen narratives within everyday urban dwellings. Each work captures fleeting human moments framed through windows, suggesting that behind every facade lies a world of emotions, relationships, and untold stories.".
Khatua completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting from B. K. College of Art and Crafts in 2012 and earned a Master of Visual Arts in Painting from College of Art, New Delhi in 2015.He received the 62nd National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi in 2022 and the Gold Medal from the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in 2018. His residencies include the FLAME Artists’ Residency, Ekaant Artist Residency, and Piramal Art Residency.
Khatua’s work is shaped by the visual intensity and contradictions of the modern city. Through layered compositions filled with architecture, advertisements, interiors, and anonymous figures, he reflects on how urban spaces influence memory, ambition, isolation, and human relationships.
