India Contemporary is an independent digital publication exploring contemporary art, culture, design, performance and ideas across India and its global communities.

We publish original interviews, essays and visual stories exploring the people, practices and perspectives shaping contemporary culture today. Based in London and looking towards India and the wider world, we connect artists, writers, designers, performers, and institutions with audiences across borders and generations.

Independently owned and editorially led, India Contemporary carries no advertising. Our editorial content is produced independently of the artists, galleries and institutions we cover.

An annual Digital Membership gives you unlimited access to all our editorial content, with five new stories published each week. From shorter previews, reviews, profiles and discoveries to in-depth essays, interviews and critical features. Members also receive our coverage of major exhibitions, festivals, art fairs and other significant cultural moments throughout the year.

Alongside our digital publication, India Contemporary publishes three print magazines each year, offering original writing, conversations and visual material created exclusively for print.

India Contemporary was founded by Jagdip Jagpal, who brings more than three decades of experience across the arts and culture in the UK, India and internationally. She was Director of India Art Fair from 2017 to 2021, having previously worked at Tate on international programmes and partnerships. She has served on the boards and governing bodies of the Wallace Collection, Almeida Theatre and London School of Economics, and is a trustee of Shakespeare’s Globe and Drawing Room.
