Artwork of the Day by Mahnoor Salman Khan

Author: Staff Writer

Manchester based artist Mahnoor Salman Khan was born in Pakistan in 1998. Her work intricately weaves traditional miniature art with a contemporary perspective, focusing on portraying the emotions of longing, emptiness, and the enduring nature of love.

Khan says of Intezaar “in this painting, I evoke love as an unseen yet abiding force that persists within solitude. I render a solitary blossoming tree, as a quiet reflection of love’s ability to endure and flourish in absence. Set against a vast, dark expanse, its reaching branches embody a subtle yearning, a gesture toward the intangible. The crimson earth becomes a field of emotional intensity, where scattered petals linger like echoes of affection once held.”.

Mahnoor Salman Khan graduated from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 2021 with a major in miniature painting. She received her Master in Fine Arts degree from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2023.

The artist’s work revolves around love as an invisible, enduring force that exists beyond physical closeness. Drawing inspiration from natural landscapes and delicate, South Asian miniature-inspired details, she create compositions that hold a sense of longing and emotional vastness. She says “within these seemingly empty spaces, I suggest a subtle warmth. An indication that love never truly disappears, but instead lingers, shaping our inner worlds and the spaces around us.”.
