India Contemporary brings together twenty painters and twenty writers in an exploration of painting as a way of understanding life, memory, place and the world around us.

Rooted in South Asian art practices, Painters considers the medium across landscape, abstraction, portraiture, politics, the body and the everyday. Rather than offering a definitive survey, the issue presents twenty artists as entry points into the wider histories and possibilities of painting.
