Plays and performances worth making time for this September.

Darkling
5 September – 24 October | Bush Theatre

Written by British-Indian playwright Titas Halder, Darkling is set in Bhopal in 1984, following a girl and her family before and after the disaster. It stars Linnea Berthelsen and is directed by Matthew Xia.

Chameleon
15 – 19 September | South London Theatre

A new play centred on Akash, a South Asian influencer played by Aranan Wijayasooria, who lives in a house with fellow influencers and content creators. It looks at code-switching, identity, social media and the pressure to perform a version of yourself online.

Remembering Rafi: Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya
20 September | Leicester Square Theatre

Who can resist a bit of Mohammed Rafi? Not us.

Born in Punjab in 1924, Rafi became one of the defining voices of Indian music, singing everything from romantic melodies and classical compositions to qawwalis, ghazals and comic numbers, and working with many of India’s greatest composers and actors.

Catch this two-hour live tribute, led by Chirag Rao with a live band, celebrating Rafi’s extraordinary repertoire.
